An eighteen carat gold and vitreous enamel pocket lighter with coral flint wheel. This is a Dunhill 'Tallboy' model that was licensed to Cartier to retail. The body of the lighter is decorated in a vertical, Art Deco, stripe pattern, filled in near the top and bottom with black vitreous enamel, along with a solid black banding at either end. The bottom of the lighter has a screw which can be removed to fill with lighter fluid. The striking flint wheel is a very beautiful piece of hand engraved coral. This, when struck, produces the spark to light the wick. Flint wheels like this are exceptionally rare in lighters, and were only reserved for the very finest examples. The lighter comes with its original exceptional red, kid leather, sleeve to protect the lighter from damage. This is embossed and gold foiled "Cartier". The lighter is hand engraved 'Cartier" on the base, along with its unique stamped four digit Cartier reference number. The lighter is also marked '18ct' on the inside of the lid hinge. The lighter was made circa 1925, and is all original, and exceptional throughout. It is fully working, just requiring the filling of lighter fluid.
